Virginia Inspection Requirements
Virginia requires an annual safety and emissions inspection prior to renewing your vehicle registration. The state mandates a safety check of the major systems to ensure everyone is sharing the road as safely as mechanically possible. This includes steering, suspension, brakes, fuel, and exhaust. Further, we’ll check your tires to be sure they still have a sufficient amount of tread depth present and that they are not leaking. Inside the passenger cabin, a technician will check airbags and seat belts and note the sound structure of floor pans and doors. Outside, we’ll check for the presence of license plates and the operation of the horn, windshield wipers, and all lights. Under passing conditions, you’ll receive a windshield sticker and certificate to show that your auto successfully met all requirements. However, if your vehicle does not pass, you’ll get a rejection sticker. This entitles you to keep driving on a temporary basis. You ‘after-hours drop-off/pick-you’ll need to have us correct the problem(s) within 15 days and inspect the car again unless it is an antique vehicle. If your automobile is at least 25 years old, it can be registered as antique transportation, exempting it from the inspection requirements if it meets certain requirements. This policy is not applicable to vehicles that are driven daily. It is intended to allow you to reach parades, collector shows/events, auto/body shops, and other related destinations not more than 250 miles from your residence.
